What is japandi style
Advertentie
Japandi is a mix of Scandinavian and Japanese design. It combines elements of Japanese art, wabi-sabi philosophy, as well as Scandinavian comfort and hügge. It would seem, what can two different styles have in common? The thing is that Japanese and Scandinavian interiors are related by their focus on simplicity, abundance of natural elements, comfort and environmental friendliness.
This should not be confused with either Scandinavian style or wabi-sabi. The first is not so minimalistic, and the second does not assume such an abundance of decor. To better understand what the peculiarity of the japandi style is, we suggest you learn how to create it in your own apartment.
How to create an interior in the japandi style
The basis of the color palette in the style of japandi should be chosen in neutral-light shades. The best way to fit into such interiors are pebble tones – white, cream, gray. However, in some cases you can bet on darker and even earthy shades, but they should be in the natural range – green and brown look best.
Bet on furniture with clean lines. Remember that minimalism does not always look boring. A sculptural table, a curved floor lamp – all this can fit into your interior, but the shapes should not be too complicated. Wood, stone, rattan – all these materials are best to make the furniture look appropriate in japandi style.
Things get more complicated in this aspect, as you will have to maneuver between Japanese and Scandinavian styles. We advise you to make a choice depending on your own preferences. Japanese interior assumes a small amount of decor – and the whole from should be symbolic. And do not forget that for the inhabitants of the Land of the Rising Sun the most fundamental issue is the question of cleanliness. Try to arrange the space so that it was convenient to clean.
But Scandinavians pay much more attention to decor. Firstly, in Scandinavian interiors are supposed to be a lot of textiles made of natural materials. It is he who makes the space more cozy. Secondly, it is the decor that gives your space a unique zest. So don’t be afraid to use brighter pillows, plaids, vases or other interesting elements.
Depending on whether you want to create a more cozy or relaxed space, maneuver between these two styles. Neither will be unnecessary for a japandi. Another aspect you shouldn’t forget about: plants. The more greenery you have, the better. Eco-friendliness and love for nature are at the heart of both interior styles, so feel free to use plants as decor.
