What are sleep wrinkles
It’s not hard to guess that sleep wrinkles (also called sleep lines) are the creases that form on the skin while we’re in the arms of Morpheus. They are caused by the displacement and compression of the soft tissues of the face when we sleep in the same position on the chest or side for long periods of time. Also, incorrect posture is not the only reason for the appearance of such wrinkles, their occurrence contributes to the dehydrated state of the skin, reduced tone and swelling of the face.
How sleep lines differ from expression lines
Sleep lines have no resemblance at all to expression lines: they have a different location and causes. The latter are formed due to active facial expressions and run perpendicular to muscle contractions. Usually sleep wrinkles disappear after waking up, but with age they turn into permanent creases. This is because collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production decreases over time.
How to see sleep wrinkles
Carefully examine your face after waking up. Sleep creases are often horizontal and are located in the nasolabial folds, near the nose, eyes and on the forehead. They look like small, thin lines.
How to get rid of sleep wrinkles
1. The right posture for sleep
The first thing you need to do is change your habits and start with your sleeping posture. The most physiological one is on your back. Among other things, this posture has a positive effect on posture.
2. Special pillow
In order to sleep in the right posture, you can cover yourself with pillows or blankets before going to bed so that you gradually get used to sleeping flat on your back, but there is still a risk that you will roll over on your side in your sleep. And this is where special pillows for sleeping on your side – so-called beauty pillows – come to our aid. Usually they have support for the neck and a recess for the face. Remember that the pillow should not be too high or too low. It is necessary that the back of the head should be slightly raised above the lower part of the body. And the pillowcase should be made of soft materials – silk is ideal.
3. Home care
If you still can’t change your habits and sleep in general, then I advise you to compensate for deficiencies of the main proteins – collagen and elastin. The first step is regular moisturizing. Add anti-aging products with amino acids and retinol. During sleep, they will work by saturating the epidermis with moisturizing and repairing components, increasing collagen and elastin production. You can also include in the care of night masks with the effect of botulinum toxin – they help to relax the muscles a little over time. From supplements, I recommend hydrolyzed collagen for cell creation, growth and repair, and omega-3 fatty acids to protect the body from free radicals that destroy collagen.
4. Cosmetologic procedures
With a timely appeal to a cosmetologist, you can prevent and even eliminate the already appeared wrinkles of sleep: Both hardware methods are used, such as ultrasonic SMAS-lifting, needle radio wave lifting, and injectable – correction of skin creases with fillers, collagen stimulation and plasmolifting. Of cosmetic procedures I recommend for prevention botulinum therapy and biorevitalization. These procedures help to relax, nourish the tissues, and stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin. If sleep creases have already appeared and do not go away, then the procedure of blanching (ed. note: in this case, fillers are injected microdoses subcutaneously), and in case of deep creases – resurfacing – comes to the rescue.
